About me

My name is Anna, and I’m an ex-pat. I came to this beautiful Island on October 7, 2006. It was all because of my boyfriend, Łukasz. He was not happy in his Sales Engineer job, and posted his CV on an international website. He got a call inviting him to become an automation Engineer, and we both packed our suitcases, bought the plane tickets, and landed in EMA airport.

I had to go through a lot to find a decent job, I worked as a barmaid, then unskilled worker, purchase ledger clerk, admin, and finally in July 2007 I got a Finance analyst job. My first job here that was almost at my level.

After a while I moved to a better Accountant job, evened the salaries out with my boyfriend, and only lasted 9 months, due to negative comments and bullying at work. I handed my notice in and went self-employed.

I busted my first company, and found an Accounting job in Calor Gas. I was still so entrenched in the bad experiences of the past that I was not able to notice all the good people, or that they were in fact nice to me and the company was nice to work for. I wasn’t nice enough back to them, which I now regret. That’s important experience as well.

Anyway – the plan was not to stop there, I went straight ahead to my newest business venture, and currently do what we call ‘rozkminianie’ – cuminnnig it out (figuring it out).

About the blog: I’m sorry if anybody feels offended by how emotional I am – I am very emotional and I am belligerent. But I believe that everyone is as good as me and it’s their right to talk back to me.

    Hi,
I recently started my blog about my experiences living as a Repatriated Warsaw-born American living in Warsaw since May of 2010. It’s at http://www.about.waw.pl and features video and was set-up using wordpress. I just want to connect with other English-language Poland/Polish bloggers.

    Anna,
I appreciate your honesty about your job situations. I’m sorry to hear you were chastized when it sounds like you were overqualified (and they were probably jealous). I spent a short time in Warwick a few years ago. You just reminded me that I should post something about that.

    Hi!

Just found your blog. You know the banner picture of the sailing ship at the top of your page? Well it caught my eye. Do you remember where you got the photo? Just interesting to me because I know the ship well. I lived on it for well over two years. It’s the Picton Castle from Canada.

Anyway, nice to find your blog.

      Hi, Kolin

if you type ‘tall ship’ in google, and switch to image search, that’s the picture coming up in the top row.

    Hi Anna,

I hope you don’t mind me getting in touch. I found your details on your website and I hope you might be able to help me with my strange request…

I am a Producer working on a television show called House Hunters International which follows English speaking expats in their quest to purchase a house abroad. I wonder if you or any of your expat contacts might be interested in getting involved?! Please find a little blurb about the show below:

House Hunters International is a half-hour program currently airing on the Home and Garden Television Network (HGTV) in America.
The series is designed to de-mystify the international home-buying process by going behind the scenes of a house hunt where buyers and their real estate agents tour 3 homes.

At its core, House Hunters International is a travel show concentrating on the idiosyncrasies of the locales and what makes them special and different.

You can watch some examples of the show here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh0Q6DYe3QM – London from South Africa (1600 series) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLmhKEzm5kg – Dubai from Illinois (2000 series)

Please get in touch if you have any more questions about the show. I look forward to hearing from you!

    Best wishes and many thanks,

    Michelle
